Enoch Fearey was born in Northamptonshire, England in 1807. Enoch immigrated with his family to the United States in 1858. They settled in Franklin County, Indiana. Enoch was a stonemason and plasterer by trade. His death was shortly after the Civil War in 1872. Despite having lived in the United States for only 14 years, Enoch was a steadfast patriot and staunch supporter of the right of freedom for all people. Most of his poems are commentaries on the politics of the day. In them he praises Abraham Lincoln and the newly formed Republican party. He also speaks out against the Confederates States and slavery.
